PERSONAL AFFAIRS UPDATE-ID CARD RENEWAL

Older Spouses, Survivors get Permanent ID cards starting in 2005 As a part of the Defense Authorization Act, Congress adopted MOAA'S suggestion to ease the burden of ID card renewal for older spouses and survivors age 75 and older and will be able to obtain permanent ID cards.

Renewal for spouse is due every four years. Even where walk-ins are accepted, you should call before going to be sure that there have not been any changes. Call during the days and hours listed before to be sure that you can get connected. At bases where appointments are required, call early as there is usually a backlog. You are allowed to renew your ID card within 90 days of expiration date. Remember, a valid, current ID card is required to obtain TRICARE FOR LIFE OR OTHER TRICARE SERVICES.
